5 Reasons to Make Blogging a Habit |
While you may be a gifted writer and have crafted some serious articles, simply leaving your work on a static web page won’t drive the traffic you want to become a successful blogger. To be a recognized and authoritative voice in the blogging world, you have to post on a regular basis.

As a social media marketing company running several blogs simultaneously, we aim for posting once a day and recommend it to all our clients. Here are some reasons and suggestions for posting on a regular basis:
- Search Engines will find you easier. Every time you make an update on your blog, it will send a ‘ping’ to the blog’s update services, which acts as a messenger to the search engines. This ping calls to the search engine spiders like Mom used to and they come running, indexing your blog every time.
- Your writing will get better! Actually committing to a regular schedule of posting will improve the quality, focus and purpose of your writing. Knowing that you need a certain number of posts a week or month will also encourage you to set important goals for yourself, fostering continual improvement.
- Attract regular readers. In order for people to trust you as a reliable source, you have to show people you are reliable. Besides, there’s comfort in consistency. People want to know that you post new information every two days so they know when to come check you out. Plus, while your posts may be informative, witty or controversial, your readers will eventually loose interest in your site if they keep coming back but don’t find anything new, no matter how good your old stuff is. Nobody wants to watch reruns forever!
- Frequent posting gives you an edge over your competitors. If you can manage to get the first scoop on important stories or news tidbits relevant to your subject matter, your authority as a blogger will skyrocket. Posting on a regular basis will encourage you to research, explore and comment on the world around you with greater vigor. So don’t let others beat you to the punch and write that post!
- The more you blog, the more you’ll like it! Like anything else, practice makes perfect. The more frequently you post, the easier it will be for you to come up with new ideas and your attitude towards blogging will become more positive. Write what you know and care about. Blogging shouldn’t feel like a chore, especially when it’s your own blog!
I hope these 5 reasons have given you an idea of how important frequent posting is to the health of your blog. I also hope that you can find inspiration in your subject matter or personal experiences so that you can become more involved your writing.
And you can trust that Apollo’s Blog will be here to help you along the way. So what are you waiting for? Get on with that post!

I keep trying to make blogging a habit, but I find it really hard to find time in my schedule to actually sit down and put something thought-provoking and reader worthy together on a regular basis.
Do you have any tips on how to stay focused and motivated to keep blogging on a consistent basis?

Hi Tiffany. Thanks for reading the Apollo Media blog and thank you for your excellent question.
At the beginning, it’s more important to focus on developing the habit. What worked for me was getting up a half an hour earlier everyday and dedicating it to blogging.
Make sure to have fun with it, though! Choose whatever you feel like working on that day, whether it’s brainstorming post ideas, reading and commenting on other blogs in your industry, writing small posts or writing an outline for big posts, etc. For right now, start small: it’s not WHAT you do that’s important, it’s that you do SOMETHING.
By setting aside that time in the morning, it’ll be done first thing and you’ll feel good that you worked towards your goal of consistently blogging (whether you post something or not). That positive feeling will reinforce the habit.
Once the habit is formed, then it’s easy to come up with thought-provoking and reader worthy content!
I hope this helps, Tiffany. Good luck and let me know how you do.
