Blogging is more than just writing text and arranging images. It’s about having the right attitude and outlook to clearly and effectively communicate solutions and opinions to hundreds and even thousands of people.

This post is a motivational piece describing the personal characteristics that we, at Apollo Media, believe make for a successful blogger. The following are a few traits that everyone here at Apollo, blogger or not, aspires to develop:

Star Blogger | Blogging Tips | Social Media Marketing

Motivated and Dedicated. A good blogger wakes up and blogs because he or she wants to, not because they have to! If you want people to be enthusiastic about your blog you have to send out that vibe. Whatever you’re feeling, you can be sure that it will show in your writing. Accept each challenge with a positive outlook and if you trip over a certain hurdle, pick yourself up and keep going. The only thing that’s really stopping you is yourself. If you find that your motivation is somewhat lacking, move on to another subject or article concept. It’s healthy to push yourself in new directions.

Patient and Persevering. It can take time before your ideas catch on and attract substantial readership. It can also take a great deal of time to figure out angles you should take, what style you should adapt and what tone you should set when writing for your blog. A successful blogger won’t let delays or slow progress get them down and out. Instead, they use this time as an incentive to try new things and experiment with different ideas. What to you have to loose so early in the game? As it has been said countless times before, patience is a virtue.

Communicative. Don’t be afraid to express yourself on other blogs! Leave comments, write emails and participate in contests. You’ll make new contacts, practice your writing skills and maybe even win a t-shirt! Being communicative also involves listening to feedback on your blog from your peers and friends. Don’t be too defensive or dismissive of their criticisms. Blogging is a continual learning process (like anything else) and the only way you can improve is to learn from your mistakes. Being open and discussing blogs with others will help pinpoint areas that you may be weak in.

Receptive to Change and New Ideas. The Internet is changing every second and as any well-seasoned blogger will tell you, keeping up with current issues, news and other changes is essential to maintaining your blog’s relevance. Often, being receptive to change will also mean adapting to new software or applications that will improve your blog’s functionality. While you may be comfortable with a certain setup, try to experiment and explore different avenues to truly test what works for you.

Informative and Value-Driven. While many people blog for the sheer novelty of it, a successful blogger has something meaningful to say and knows that it will be useful to their readership. Crafting valuable posts wins people over and gives your blog direction and focus. A successful blogger considers the needs of his or her audience when writing their posts, and is able to recognize the value they hold for them. So don’t be afraid to share your expertise and talent, because many people are searching for it.

So there are five characteristics that we can all strive towards to build better and more informative blogs. We hope this post has motivated you and helped you recognize that you have power in the blogosphere!
